The 2026 Danube Water Forum once again demonstrated the strength, diversity, and forward momentum of the IAWD and Danube Water Program community.  Building on IAWD’s established tradition, this year's Forum brought together utilities, policymakers, financial institutions, development partners, Young Water Professionals and technical experts to connect, exchange, and shape the future of water services in the region.

A defining feature of the 2026 Forum was the exceptional engagement of young professionals. The active participation of the YWP network sent a clear and encouraging message: the future of the water sector in the Danube region is in capable, motivated, and innovative hands.

Their perspectives brought fresh energy to discussions - challenging established approaches, introducing new ideas, and reinforcing the importance of intergenerational collaboration. This strong youth engagement was not only inspiring but essential to shaping a resilient and future-ready sector.

Across multiple sessions and exchanges, the Forum reflected a powerful collective narrative: the Danube region is moving from dialogue to action. The energy captured throughout the event - both in formal sessions and informal conversations - showcased a sector that is increasingly connected, solutions-oriented, and forward-looking.
