IAWD’s Elisabeta Poci was out of office for two days in late May, representing both SHUKALB, the Albanian Water Association, and IAWD at two back-to-back meetings in Oslo, Norway.

The European Water Association in partnership with the Norwegian Water Association (NWA) had dedicated the EWA Spring Seminar to the revised Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive (UWWTD) which will come into effect on 1 January 2026, meaning its transposition into national law must be completed by June 30, 2027. Titled “Shaping the Future of Water Management in Europe: Increasing the Value of Water Through the Revised UWWTD”, the Spring Seminar dealt with the foreseeable challenges of this process: While scientific studies do indeed show the merits of the revised UWWTD, its implementation presents significant financial and technical challenges for utilities across Europe. The conference therefore aimed at creating a platform for better understanding these challenges and to explore ways in which utilities and authorities can collaborate to improve European waters.

Ms. Poci also attended the EWA Council Meeting, representing both SHUKALB and IAWD. We can also report that Ms. Poci was elected Vice President of IWA, the International Water Association. Congratulations from everyone in our community!
