Time to make your plans: In a very short six weeks, the 2024 Danube Water Forum will be on. The Forum is titled "Riding the wave: Water Sector Innovations for a new Climate Reality", and will be held in beautiful Brasov, Romania on 29 and 30 May, back-to-back with a Board Meeting of the International Water Association (IWA), the annual UBP Danube Hub workshop, and several business meetings. More information on the DWF Event's page.

During the Forum you can expect rich networking opportunities, great hospitality in beautiful surroundings, an exciting program, and a roster of distinguished speakers. Just a few examples:

International Water Association Executive Director Kalanithy Vairavamoorthy is scheduled as the keynote speaker of the opening session. Mr. Vairavamoorthy combines a strong engineering background with practical international experience, has published extensively and has a strong international profile working closely with the World Bank, UN-Habitat, UNESCO and multiple other significant stakeholders. He has led several urban water management projects all over the world and is currently a member of the ADB’s Water Advisory Group.

Mr. Vairavamoorthy’s opening keynote will be followed by Michel Sponar’s presentation on the climate resilience aspect in the EU water service directives. Mr. Sponar is the long-standing Deputy Head of Unit at the European Commission, Directorate General for the Environment. His team is involved in several files such as the revision of the Drinking Water Directive and the review of the Urban Waste Water Treatment. He was directly involved in the cooperation with OECD on the assessment of the investment needs and the financing opportunities in the EU water sector.

Additional interesting speaker rosters are scheduled for all sessions of the Forum, and many will deal with practical approaches and solutions for current and future challenges, like Lindita SakiriTechnical Director at the WWTP Skopje, who will take the stage during the session on trends in wastewater treatment, water reuse and circular economy, presenting the large-scale wastewater treatment plant project in Skopje, and demonstrating how to successfully turn wastewater into a resource.
