The European Commission in close collaboration the Bundesland Hessen and Hessen Trade and Invest GmbH, in close coordination with the Bill-and-Melinda Gates Foundation as well as the World Health Organization, is creating a Global Wastewater Sentinel System as an early alert system for public health. This global initiative is endorsed by numerous state and non-state actors, such as national health agencies, philanthropic organizations, research groups and the private sector.

The International Conference “Towards a Global Wastewater Surveillance System for Public Health” brings together this actors.

The event aims at creating the basis for a Global Wastewater Consortium to ensure the integration of wastewater-based surveillance into core public health functions.
