Globally water losses from drinking water supply networks amount to 346,000,000,000 liters per day! If these water losses were reduced by only 30%, 800 million people could be supplied with already treated water!

The Water Loss Specialist Group of the International Water Association (IWA) has very recently established the World Water Loss Day to raise awareness of the enourmous problem of water losses from drinking water distribution systems and the need to get more serious fighting it!

Based on an idea from Uri Gutermann (Switzerland) several members of the IWA Water Loss Specialist Group (WLSG) have developed the idea/concept/initiative to designate the 4th of December as “World Water Loss Day.”  Although the concept originated from the WLSG, the use of the named day is intended for all and not just an IWA logo or initiative.  It really is about awareness and continuing to point many different audiences to best practices and the tools available.

In the Danube region, the Danube Learning Partenrship tries to tackle the topic of water loss in utilities with the Non-revenue Water program. Browse the leaflet below to learn more!
