Months turned to years, years turned to decades, and in the face of so many changes IAWD kept going and growing: The proverbial water under the bridge comes to mind looking at the IAWD Board's 100th regular meeting in Vienna on September 16–17, 2025. The two-day event brought together current board members, incoming members for the next term, and distinguished guests to reflect on the association’s journey and discuss its future.
The meeting kicked-off on Tuesday with a guided tour of the historic Vienna Water Tower, offering participants a unique glimpse into Vienna’s water heritage. This was followed by an introduction to Vienna Water at the World Bank premises, setting the stage for insightful discussions. The evening concluded with a joint dinner at a riverside location, providing a relaxed atmosphere for networking and celebration.

On Wednesday, the formal Board Meeting took place at the World Bank office in Vienna, covering key agenda items such as association business, project activities, dapacity development and upcoming events including the 2026 Danube Water Forum.
A special moment of the meeting was the appointment of Secretary General Katerina Schilling, underlining IAWD’s commitment to strong leadership and continuity in guiding the association into its next chapter.
Another true highlight was the presence of Gerhard Jechlinger and Hans Sailer. Both gentlemen played a central role in IAWD's very first Board Meeting back in 1993, and it was a great honor to have them with us again, more than 30 years later. Now retired, their participation was a moving reminder of the strong foundations on which IAWD has been built.
The 100th Board Meeting was not only a moment to look ahead but also a celebration of IAWD's journey and the people who have shaped it over the decades. Here's to the next chapter in strengthening cooperation and innovation in the Danube water service sector!
