No joke. In fact, deadly serious: A functioning toilet is civilization's basic equipment. Protecting human dignity. Important for the protection of individual and public health. And actually nothing we like to and need to discuss, except that…

Except that for 3.6 billion people on this planet, toilets aren't a matter of course, rather an unavailable luxury. Means we need to talk. To promote. To get going. To change the situation. This is what World Toilet Day celbrated on 19 November is about.

It was created to inspire action to tackle the global sanitation crisis. For further information visit the homepage under the link below. There are various communication materials and a factsheet you can download, choosing from nine different languages. The International Water Association has even created a quiz on the theme.

And if you would like to learn more about sanitation issues in the Danube region, check our State of the Sector Report here. Learn more – and all those who contribute to a change for the better: Thank you for pulling your weight. Happy World Toilet Day!
