The present resolution was approved on the occasion of the Discussion Meeting
on 6 October, 1992, in Vienna and signed by the participating representatives
of the water supply companies.
Water is the basis of life. It is a depletable resource. Various uses and hazards endager its quality.
This makes it increasingly difficult to use for the purposes of drinking water supply. For this reason,
the undersigned representatives of the water supply companies in the Danube River catchment area
(including the Danube and its tributaries) have passed the following resolution:
In order to improve and safeguard the water quality of the Danube and its tributaries, an International
Association of Water Supply Companies of the Danube River Catchment Area (IAWD) shall be
established with the purpose of encouraging all measures and efforts aimed at avoiding and eliminating the pollution of, and threat to, the status of raw water in the interest of drinking water supply.
To achieve this objective, every effort shall be undertaken to bring together the water supply
companies of all countries in the Danube River Catchment Area within IAWD in order to
implement the following measures:
-
Safeguarding the interests of all drinking water supply companies in the Danube River
-
Catchment Area.
-
Developing a unified, internationally agreed monitoring and analysing programme on water quality,
-
evaluation and publication of the results obtained thereby.
-
Submitting the results achieved by the Association to national and international authorities.
-
Public relations.
-
Maintaining a regular and continuous exchange of experience between members.
-
Cooperating closely with other organisations embracing similar objectives.
IAWD is an independent technical organisation: It does not conduct planned economic activities,
and it is a nonprofit organisation, which is exclusively oriented towards public benefit purposes
and scientific objectives.
Water supply-related problems can be solved only through transboundary and solidary cooperation.
The particular circumstances of the water supply companies in the Danube River Catchment Area
in Eastern Europe shall be taken into account.
In order to prepare the foundation of IAWD, a committee shall be established, which will elaborate
the Articles of the Association as well as the basis safeguarding the entire range of activities in
the financial resprect.
